Just had a great weekend at Etland House, Preston Patrick, just off junction 36 M6.
The astute amongst you will have noted that Capernwray is off junction 35 so very convenient for our Saturday dip.
Foreboding weather forecasts all week of snow and ice but in the event travelling up on Friday 14th December was easy going. The surface conditions on Saturday were not warm but nothing like the predicted -6 degree feeling with wind chill or freezing hail. It was more pleasant in the water at 8 degrees. We did have a number of wimps duck out of the diving but 4 hardy souls did have enjoyable dives in peace and quiet.
We felt well deserving of our Christmas dinner on Saturday evening.
And up for a walk in the morning sunshine on Sunday before brunch. A gentle stroll round Grange-over-Sands front in the afternoon walked off the stuffed feeling.
An excellent weekend despite being diving lite and food heavy !
It’s the weekend before Christmas and where are BSAC 18 going. To Dinorwic (near Llanberis) of course. Our latest destination away from St Abbs to search for a shorter drive, a more reliable diving opportunity and a little luxury.
16 signed up for the annual bash with the opportunity to dive Vivian quarry at Llanberis. A new experience for most. Staying at Capel Dinorwic (a converted chapel) with excellent facilities for 16.
Friday evening the majority had a selection of chillis to choose from.
Saturday morning loomed a little gray and wet but the hardy 10 donned dive gear and wandered through the arch to the abandoned slate quarry / dive centre. The water was an unexpectedly pleasant 9 degrees and 40 minutes enough time to get a good appreciation of the underwater terrain. One dive was enough before a sojourn to Llanberis for lunch. A group dined at ‘Pete’s Eats’, the legendary climbers caff.
Some of the group adjourned to the pub whilst other wandered Caernarvon old town which was enjoying a little better weather.
The main event was looming fast. We tucked into our multi course traditional Christmas meal and drinks in the evening and enjoyed Jill’s party games.
Sunday was particularly gray although the group was not ! We enjoyed the traditional Sunday breakfast brunch. Those that were staying on had the opportunity of a nice walk alongside the Menai Straight. More than enough left overs for tea.
Thank yous to Richard for the accommodations and Jill for organising food and games. Thank you to all the cooks and bottle washers. A real group effort. See you next year !
